Mobile phones at Currie Community High School

In September 2025, Currie Community High School (CCHS) introduced a new mobile phone policy.  In summary:

·       Pupil phones are not allowed to be seen, heard, or used on school premises except for social times, such as break and lunch.

·       If a pupil is spotted with a mobile phone on school premises first thing in the morning, between classes, or during classes, the phone will be confiscated by a member of staff and available for collection from the school office at the end of the school day.

·       The school recommends the phone is switched off and in the pupil’s bag outside of social times.

This is a new initiative, and the school management team will review its operation and impact in consultation with pupils in the Autumn of 2025.  You can find out more about the school’s mobile phone policy in here 'The Currie Way' - Relationships for Learning at Currie Community High School

Mobile Phone FAQs

What if I need to get in touch with my child?

Call the school office on 0131 449 2165.

Why is the school doing this?

The problems caused by frequent phone use in school are believed to outweigh any benefits.  CCHS adoption of this policy follows consultation with pupils, parents, and staff, and successful implementation of similar policies in other Edinburgh schools, such as The Royal High School.

Are there exemptions?

Exemptions are possible in consultation with the school, for example, an exemption may be permitted if the phone is actively used to manage a medical condition.

If you have questions about CCHS mobile phone policy, please contact the school.
